Rhino Fantasy Baseball Handbook

Written by Steve Severino, Copyright 1995-2002As fantasy baseball leagues mature, they often tinker with their rules in an effort to make the game more exciting and challenging. Other than the well-known classic Rotisserie League Baseball book written by Dan Okrent and Glen Waggoner, there are very few books that cover rules for playing fantasy baseball. The Rhino Fantasy Baseball Handbook is a complete rulebook that offers an alternative set of rules, and provides some fresh ideas for those leagues looking beyond the traditional Rotisserie League rules system. The handbook was written by Steve Severino, President of Rhino Software and a longtime fantasy baseball league commissioner and fantasy sports expert. The handbook also serves as the official rulebook for the Harrisburg Area Rotisserie League (HARL), which Steve has run since 1987.

The Rhino Fantasy Baseball rules system uses more stat categories (12 vs. 8) and a different point scoring system (called Proportional Rotisserie scoring) than is found in the standard rotisserie baseball rules. It also includes a unique system for holding fantasy league playoffs during the month of September. Rhino Fantasy Baseball leagues use 24-man active rosters, ultra-style reserve lists, a 320-unit draft day salary cap and an in-season salary cap as well, and a weekly free agent draft and waiver claims system. The handbook also includes sections covering off-season events such as the annual Farm Draft and Salary Arbitration process. Whether you're completely new to fantasy baseball, or a veteran rotisserie baseball commissioner looking for ways to inject new life into your league, you'll be well-served to take a peek at the interesting ideas contained in this rulebook.
