About the 2005 Hockey Stats

The Stats Table provides links to the hockey stats files that are currently available for the 2005-2006 NHL season. Please note that these files are in ZIP file format. After you download a ZIP file, you will need to unzip it to get at the actual stats files that are stored inside. We strongly recommend that you create a folder on your hard drive for storing both the ZIP files that you download and the actual stats files that you extract from those zipped files. For example, you might create a folder on your C:\ drive called NHL2005 (C:\NHL2005) to hold the hockey stats for this season. You can create a folder on your hard drive by using Windows Explorer. 

After you download a ZIP file from this web site, you'll need to unzip it and extract the stats files found inside to your stats folder (e.g. C:\NHL2005). The NHL hockey stats files will adhere to these naming conventions (where mmddyy represents the stats date in month/day/year format): 

For example, NHL101605SKT_YTD.TXT is the stats file for NHL Skaters (forwards & defensemen) thru 10/16/2005. Notice that all stats file names end in ".TXT", indicating that they're plain Text files. All statistics files contain Year-to-Date (YTD) player stats. When importing these files into your Rhino Hockey database, be very careful to specify the correct stats date. For instance, if you're importing a stats file named NHL101605SKT_YTD.TXT, then the stats date is 10/16/2005. Specifying the wrong stats date for a file during importing will result in your fantasy stats calculations being incorrect. If you ever accidentally import a wrong stats file or specify the wrong stats date, you should delete that set of stats using the Mass Change function in Rhino Hockey, and then re-import using the correct stats file and correct stats date. 

New NHL Hockey stats files are normally posted by 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, every Monday during the 2005-2006 hockey season. Should any problems arise that will cause the stats to be posted later than usual, please check the notes posted above the Stats Table to get the scoop on when the files will be available. Our webmaster is also a fantasy hockey commissioner who uses these stats files, so rest assured that he'll do everything in his power to make sure the stats are posted here in as timely a fashion as possible.

Commish Tips: Stats always run through Sunday's games. When importing a stats file into Rhino Hockey, always be sure to use the Sunday date (the one shown in the stats table) as the Stats Date for that file.
Note: There is one exception to this rule. The last week of the 2005-06 NHL season ends on a Tuesday (4/18). So for the final week of the season, your stats will be through Tuesday's games.  

Opening Day for your fantasy league should be set to 10/03/2005 (actual NHL games don't start until October 5th). Use 04/18/2006 as the Season End Date for your hockey league.

All weekly roster moves that you record in Rhino Hockey should take effect on Mondays (which should make sense because it's the day after the Sunday stats). 

If you ever accidentally import the wrong stats file or specify the wrong stats date for a file you've imported, delete that set of player stats using the appropriate Mass Change function in Rhino Hockey and then re-import using the correct stats file and correct stats date.

Hello hockey stats customers, this is Steve Severino, President of Rhino Software. With the end of another NHL regular season upon us, I just wanted to take this opportunity to extend my sincerest Thank You to everyone who used the stats service this season and supported Rhino Software. We hope that you enjoyed this hockey season and did well in your fantasy pools. And we hope that you'll be back again next year for yet another exciting season of NHL hockey action.

In addition to our hockey stats service, we're hoping to finally realize our goal of releasing version 1.0 of the new Rhino Hockey software we've been working on for some time. I used the beta version of the software to run my fantasy league this season, and it worked great. So if you're looking for a stats tracker, league manager, and player analysis tool for your hockey pool, keep Rhino Hockey in mind for the 2006-07 season.      

Notes:

1. Starting in December, the posting time for the weekly NHL stats will be moved from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This change is necessary because our 3rd-party raw stats source is now sending us the raw unprocessed stats several hours later than they previously were. That delay makes it impossible for us to complete all the work we need to do by 1:00 PM (which includes validating the accuracy of the stats, creating new NHL player IDs, and creating our proprietary Rhino Stats skaters & goalies files). Barring any unforeseen problems with our 3rd-party data source we'll be publishing weekly stats by the 3:00 PM deadline for the rest of the season.
           
2. The NHL shuts down for the 2006 Winter Olympics from 2/13 thru 2/26. No NHL games are being played during that time period. Regular season games resume during the week of FEB 27 thru MAR 5. 
    
3. The NHL season ends on a Tuesday this year instead of a Sunday. As a result, the final stats for Week #26 are through 4/18/2006, and will be posted one day after the regular season ends.
