Overview of Products and Services We Offer

Sword of Severnia
Game design and playtesting continues on our tabletop miniatures wargame (Sword of Severnia) which has been under development for the past 3 years. The game system is shaping up nicely and the alpha version of the main rules set should be finished within another 8 weeks if all goes well. 

Development of the Troop Builder, Character Builder, Army Builder, and Troop Card Printer software components of the wargame has also begun, although work on that won't really get hot and heavy until August rolls around. 

There's still plenty of work to be done (continued playtesting, completing the army builder software that's bundled with the base version of the game, and finalizing the written rulebook). We are hoping to have the wargame ready for release in Winter 2008, but those plans are still in a state of flux right now.

Our current plan is to offer an electronic Basic Version of the game (troop/army building software and digital wargame rulebook) and also offer a paperback edition of the rules. 

The Deluxe Version of the wargame will include everything in the basic version plus a cool computer-moderated battle module called Battle HQ and some scenario building tools. Work on this software won't begin until the Basic Version is finished.  

Future plans for the wargame include a Campaign & Sieges supplement, database updates for additional creature races, stats for sample armies and famous characters, and drag & drop battlefield map creation tools. 

Rhino Baseball
Steve Severino (our in-house rotisserie baseball guru and the designer of Rhino Baseball) is also the lead developer of our upcoming miniature wargame entitled Sword of Severnia.
Work on the wargame project has kept Steve extremely busy.

While Steve had hoped to squeeze in a few enhancements to Rhino Baseball this Summer, the prospects of that happening are looking less & less likely to happen with each passing month because completing the work on the new wargame is Priority #1 at Rhino Software right now.

That said, there will be future enhancements to Rhino Baseball at some point down the road, so keep checking here for news.    

Rhino Hockey
Fantasy hockey fans who have been wondering whether or not Rhino Hockey is going to be released soon, we're sorry to report that the release of this product remains on-hold indefinitely. 

There are several reasons why we've decided not to publish the fantasy hockey software at this time. Rather than run down the litany of reasons, we'll simply say that the main reason is because Rhino Software's business focus has changed. We used to focus exclusively on fantasy sports, but the landscape has changed drastically in that arena over the past 10 years and we can no longer survive as a company taking that approach. Thus, we have made a business decision to move away from fantasy sports in general (although we will still maintain and support our flagship baseball product).    

On April 14, we added a bonus feature to our weekly stats file download service for Baseball. We're now including One-Week stats in addition to our regular Year-to-Date player statistics.

We're Branching Out into Tabletop Games

Outside of the fantasy sports realm, we are currently developing a computer-assisted fantasy wargame for miniatures wargamers and toy soldier enthusiasts. We're hoping to have the game finished sometime during 2008.

In addition to fantasy sports and games software, Rhino Software also develops and publishes applications used by small businesses.

Our popular Rhino Viewer software is a terrific program for viewing and manipulating full-color PSR reports. PSR reports, also commonly known as Powersoft reports, are created by 3rd-party database applications that were designed and written in PowerBuilder. Bundled with the PSR report viewer is our companion PSR-to-HTML Converter utility, which enables you to convert PSR reports into simple HTML web pages that can be viewed in a standard web browser.

The reason that we handle questions via email rather than over the phone is because it gets our customers to more clearly describe their question/problem. It also gives us time to consider it carefully and do any investigation if necessary, and allows us to write a detailed answer/solution that you'll have a hard-copy of and can re-read again later on if needed.

Sometimes we will arrange to talk with you over the phone if we feel that will simplify things, but your initial contact with tech support should always be made via email.

Please keep in mind that we keep normal business hours (Monday-thru-Friday, 9 AM-to-5 PM EST), so if you contact us outside of normal working hours you're not likely to get a response from us until the next business day in most cases.

Our Company and Some Technical Stuff

Rhino Software is a small, independent software development and consulting company located in central Pennsylvania just outside of Harrisburg, the state capital.

Our company's specialty is developing desktop database and client/server applications for the Microsoft Windows operating system (Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP).

We currently create and sell software to 3 distinct audiences: fantasy sports enthusiasts, hobby gamers who play board games and miniature wargames, and small business owners.

We approach every software project with a few simple goals in mind. First, we want to provide you with imaginative software that's both reliable and easy-to-use. Secondly, we strive to give you the tools to run your games, clubs, or small business more efficiently and with less effort. Our main development tool of choice is PowerBuilder, the market-leading 4GL rapid-application development language created by Sybase. Rhino Software's software development chief, Steve Severino, has over 12 years of experience developing software applications using PowerBuilder. The unparalleled strengths of PowerBuilder's versatile scripting language, object-oriented development environment, and proprietary datawindow feature for accessing and displaying database information make it the perfect tool for developing robust, state-of-the-art database applications for customers and businesses of all shapes and sizes.
